Choose the File for the Task

JSON is the editable backup. Print / Save PDF opens the browser print dialog for the chart, key and craft-specific row or board information. PNG provides a chart image with symbols and materials. CSV lists used materials and counts. None of these files automatically provides yarn length, purchasing quantities or a complete construction pattern.

Match A4 or Letter in Both Places

Open Export settings & page preview, choose A4 or Letter and select black-and-white symbols or colored symbols. Choose 3, 4 or 6 mm reading cells. Set the same paper in the browser print dialog, use 100% scale and turn off headers and footers. The page preview describes chart sections; cover, key and row-guide pages may add to the PDF total.

Follow the Actual Page Ranges

Larger cells can mean fewer rows and columns on a page. Read each printed range rather than assuming that a page always contains 40 cells. Pages do not overlap. For beads, each board section stays on its own chart page and large cell sizes may be reduced to keep that section together.

Measure the Calibration Line

Print one page and measure its 50 mm line before printing the full chart. If it differs, inspect the browser and printer scaling settings. A correct line confirms scale, not a match to fabric, stitches or pegboard spacing. Current printouts are enlarged reference charts, not actual-size placement templates.

Check Downloads and Handle a Canceled Print

Canceling the print dialog does not create a PDF. After saving, open the actual file and inspect symbols, page ranges and text near page edges. If a download fails, keep the editor open, save a JSON backup and retry. A success message requesting a download is not proof that a file reached your device.

Keep Counts and References with the Chart

Export CSV again after the last design edit. It records occupied cells in the maker’s stated unit, not skeins, grams or a stock check. DMC and Perler references retain their data-source notices. Keep those notices when sharing exports and check physical materials before beginning.

Before you start

  • Paper choice matches the print dialog.
  • Symbols and key are readable.
  • The 50 mm line has been checked on paper.
  • Chart ranges and material counts match the final project.

Saving & printing Questions

Why does the PDF have more pages than the chart preview?

The preview counts chart sections. The full printout can also include a cover, material key and row guide.

Does PNG contain the full crochet row guide?

No. Use PDF for the craft-specific row guide and JSON to keep editable settings and notes.
